On the 27th of January 2023 a workshop to validate the results of Task 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 was held with the identified Network of Champions. Champions were authors of the studies identified to be describing best practices and champions in promoting HL and dHL. Furthermore, the partners in IDEAHL consortium were asked to identify some national champions, who were also invited.
For the workshop, 41 persons discussed the results and findings from WP1 activities presenting initiatives, innovation, and actions in promoting HL and dHL as well as best practices to support HL and dHL and tools for measuring HL and dHL levels in the EU.
The workshop resulted of valuable insight about various aspects of (d)HL, which were included to the Deliverable D.1.1. The champions emphasized that interventions should be culturally tailored and should consider cultural differences and the need for education and training of citizens, as HL tools are easier to use for highly educated than for vulnerable groups or they need more support in using them.
More systematic evidence is needed about interventions to be able to assess best practices and evaluation should be embedded in the actions from the beginning and should focus on both the process and the outcomes of interest. To measure the levels of (d)HL the champions pointed out that the best (d)HL tool is the one that matches the purpose and has the strongest evidence base.
